In 'O.C. and Stiggs' (1987), Oliver Cromwell Ogilvie (Daniel Jenkins), aka O.C, and his buddy Mark Stiggs (Neill Barry), are a pair of misfit teenagers whose greatest joy in life is making those around them miserable. The pair idolizes musician King Sunny Ade, and when they find out he's playing a show in Mexico, they travel to see him with their dimwitted friend Barney. As the summer progresses, O.C. and Stiggs continue to torment their neighbours, the Schwabs - at Lenore's (Laura Urstein) wedding, and at the opening night of the local theatre group's play, to which they invite King Sunny Ade and his African Beats to perform. In 'Thieves Like Us' (1973), a convicted murderer (Keith Carradine) is serving his sentence on a prison farm when he manages to escape with two accomplices. They go on the run, embarking on a series of violent bank robberies, but it is not long before the police are on their trail.

The End of St. Petersburg opens on a farm where a peasant must stay in the field and plow as his wife dies in childbirth. Trudging to the city to seek work, he is forced into scab labor. He tragically realizes the consequences of his mistake and violently attacks his employer. After jail, he is forced to join the army. World War I, in the best depiction yet of the horrors of battle, destroys all in its path as the bourgeois speculators grow rich. But the revolution frees St. Petersburg from the brutal yoke of the rich and there is born a new hope for the future.
