A collection of five movies directed by Robert Altman. In 'Fool for Love' (1985), Sam Shepard stars as Eddie, an enigmatic cowboy drifter who returns to the seedy El Royale Motel in the hope of resuming his romance with the love of his life, May (Kim Basinger), a waitress who works in the bar. Since Eddie's departure, May has taken up with a new boyfriend, Martin (Randy Quaid) - a turn of events Eddie had not been planning for. Over the course of one night, Eddie and May argue and talk incessantly, fighting and making love with equal fervour, until the dark truth at the heart of their tumultuous relationship is gradually revealed. Only a derelict, alcoholic old man (Harry Dean Stanton) knows the secret that could destroy Eddie and May's love forever. In 'The Long Goodbye' (1973), Los Angeles detective Philip Marlowe (Elliott Gould) smells a rat when his friend Terry Lennox (Jim Bouton), whom he has just driven to Tijuana, is accused of murder. Convinced of Lennox's innocence, Marlowe follows a convoluted trail which leads him to his friend's mistress, Eileen Wade (Nina Van Pallandt), her alcoholic husband (Sterling Hayden) and hood Marty Augustine (Mark Rydell), to whom Lennox owed a substantial sum of money. 'Mash' (1970) depicts the crazy antics and the sexual adventures of Hawkeye Pierce (Donald Sutherland), Trapper John McIntyre (Gould) and Duke Forrest (Tom Skerritt), all surgeons working in a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War. The black humour of the medical team is contrasted with the terrible waste of life that they are exposed to. In 'O.C. and Stiggs' (1987), Oliver Cromwell Ogilvie (Daniel Jenkins), aka O.C, and his buddy Mark Stiggs (Neill Barry), are a pair of misfit teenagers whose greatest joy in life is making those around them miserable. The pair idolizes musician King Sunny Ade, and when they find out he's playing a show in Mexico, they travel to see him with their dimwitted friend Barney. As the summer progresses, O.C. and Stiggs continue to torment their neighbours, the Schwabs - at Lenore's (Laura Urstein) wedding, and at the opening night of the local theatre group's play, to which they invite King Sunny Ade and his African Beats to perform. In 'Thieves Like Us' (1973), a convicted murderer (Keith Carradine) is serving his sentence on a prison farm when he manages to escape with two accomplices. They go on the run, embarking on a series of violent bank robberies, but it is not long before the police are on their trail.
