Is chicken good for you? Is the chicken that you buy healthy? Are the chickens that you eating healthy? Bryan Marcel goes out to a pastured chicken farm, then goes into a major chicken grower's chicken coop. The chicken that you buy from any of the big names: Pilgrim's Pride, Tyson or Perdue were raised just like the conventional chickens in the video (This video was filmed at one of their growers). The American people have no idea that antibiotics, growth stimulants and arsenic is added to the food (GMO corn) that the chickens are fed. The chicken's food is medicated. The arsenic that is added to the chickens food is passed on to you through the chickens meat. The label "natural" means next to nothing. Natural chicken applies to how the chicken was processed. A Nautural chicken is fed the same food that a regular chicken is fed. It's all marketing. Organic chickens are not fed these additives. Organic chicken is a step in the right direction. Pastured poultry (pastured chicken) is the gold standard of how chickens should be raised. Pastured poultry (pastured chicken) truely is natural chicken. Pastured poultry (pastured chicken) tastes better and has more nutrition than a regular conventional chicken. There is a reason why the conventional chicken that you buy at your grocery store is cheap. That reason will harm your health. You are what you eat. http://www.BryanMarcel.com

How to grow organic duckweed for free fish food in aquaponics. I use a raft system to grow duckweed in the same ponds and tanks that my Tilapia are in. Get more from your aquaponics system when you grow your own FREE organic fish food. Aquaponic duckweed is a very good choice for feeding Tilapia and lots of other fish. High in protein and dietary minerals, duckweed is a sure choice for good free organic feed. Cheap DIY duckweed rafts that takes a few minutes to make. Rafts help cut down on algae and help hold in heat on cool nights. We also take a look at aquaponics settlement tank draining in duckweed beds and growing duckweed in a kiddie swimming pool. Chickens love duckweed and some of your other animals may take a liking to it as well. Watch and enjoy

If you don't cull your chickens every few years and start all over with chicks, you're likely going to be adding young birds to your flock from time to time to keep the eggs coming and to replace hens that die off. Here is how I bring new birds into my own flock.

Subscribe for free to Dr. Greger's videos at: http://bit.ly/nutritionfactsupdates DESCRIPTION: The level of multi-drug antibiotic resistant bacteria contamination is compared between meat from animals raised conventionally and certified organic meat from animals raised without being fed antibiotics. I addressed this issue previously in videos such as: • Past the Age of Miracles: Facing a Post-Antibiotic Age (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/past-the-age-of-miracles-facing-a-post-antibiotic-age/) • Lowering Dietary Antibiotic Intake (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/lowering-dietary-antibiotic-intake/) • More Antibiotics In White Meat or Dark Meat? (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/more-antibiotics-in-white-meat-or-dark-meat/) • Meat Mythcrushers (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/meat-mythcrushers/) • Drug Residues in Meat (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/drug-residues-in-meat/) Isn't it illegal to sell meat contaminated with dangerous bacteria? Unfortunately no. See why in my video Salmonella in Chicken & Turkey: Deadly But Not Illegal (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/salmonella-in-chicken-turkey-deadly-but-not-illegal/). Reminds me of the case I wrote about in Supreme Court case: meat industry sues to keep downed animals in food supply (http://nutritionfacts.org/2011/11/03/supreme-court-case-meat-industry-sues-to-keep-downed-animals-in-food-supply/). How to use an old salvaged shopping cart/trolley to make a homemade trap that actually works. The materials were entirely free and it took maybe three hours. We really like foxes (as we really like all the wildlife we are lucky enough to have around us) but one of the local ones has learned how to get over the fence of our hen run. We've lost a few, and of course we have a responsibility to our hens too. We don't have a gun, and we won't use poison or snares (for reasons which should be obvious if you watch this video), so that only left a trap as a possible solution. Fox traps are expensive to buy (and how often do you need one?) so this is my really simple homemade design. The bait we used were bones, sausages, cat food, and finally a dead hen. The biggest problem was the rats -- they would eat the bait and not set off the trap, or the trap would spring but they'd just walk away. So it seems the hen is the only thing that will work. You might notice that I have not included the 'B' word in the title, description or tags -- I don't want anyone looking up how to catch these wonderful animals. We have re-set the trap and if we catch anything else we'll let you know.. TAGS: how to, make, fox, live, trap, live-trap, trapping, shopping, trolley, cart, catch, salvaged, homemade, foxes, wildlife, hens, chickens, run, gun, poison, snares, design, bait, bones, sausages, cat food, dead, set off, spring, sprung, drop-door, recycled, earth, soil, self-sufficiency, organic, smallholding, homesteading, permaculture, sustainability, life, natural living, blow-in, blog, way out west, DIY, poultry, coop, GIY, rural, expat, farming, country, vlog, free-range, back to, nature, home grown, small scale, down to earth, hands on, animal husbandry, west, cork, Ireland, Irish, mixed, healthy, traditional, skills, small farm, harvest, home, produce, garden, gardening, growing, crops, vegetables, wild,

Mostly fresh air coop design. Chickens free range into large orchard. Nest boxes designed for eggs to roll forward, the screen shows which boxes have the eggs. It prevents egg eating and keeps them cleaner. Easy to clean nest box - simple pull it out rinse it off. They seem to really like the astroturf.

CLF teamed up with the Video and Film Arts Department at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) to produce Out to Pasture: The Future of Farming? films in 2010, which explore important issues in our food system. CLF and MICA also collaborated to produce a film about sustainable food animal production entitled Out to Pasture: The Future of Farming? (34 minutes) CLF's Leo Horrigan plays the role of producer for Out to Pasture and Allen Moore, a MICA professor and independent filmmaker, directs the film. Out to Pasture contrasts industrial-style confined animal production with farms that raise food animals outdoors in diversified operations, striving to be sustainable. Several of these pasture-based farmers are profiled and they tell their own vibrant stories of bucking the trends in farming. They discuss how they got started in farming (three transitioned from confinement operations), what's important about their farming methods, how their conventional-farm neighbors view them, how to keep young people on the farm, the future of the food system, and other compelling topics. The film also features Robert Lawrence, director of CLF; and John Ikerd, a leading thinker on sustainable agriculture issues. http://www.jhsph.edu/research/centers-and-institutes/johns-hopkins-center-for-a-livable-future/news_events/multimedia/out_of_pastore.html

Aquaculture (i.e. aquatic plants and animals) is North America's third largest import, only following automobiles and fuel. However, we have managed to overfish our environment beyond repair. Overfishing poses an enormous threat to our oceanic ecosystems. Enter urban aquaculture, or more simply put: fish farming in the city. Because urban aquaculture raises their fish rather than collecting them in mass quantities from their natural habitat, it provides an opportunity for fish levels and ecosystems to return to a healthier state. Professor Martin Schreibman, distinguished Professor Emeritus of Biology at Brooklyn College, has developed a state-of-the-art, sustainable urban aquaculture facility. His aquaculture utilizes a water re-use system. Fish waste is filtered out and is used as a plant fertilizer, so ultimately, he is self-sustainably harvesting 2 types of crop -- fish and plants.
