A moment to brag: Our client, NIC Foundation, the folks who organized Flavour, told me that our social media campaign is what made it sell out almost 4 weeks before launch. What was it? The video interviews, helping to tell the #localfood story. People want to know you. They want to connect. Make it easy for them.

I like this vendor foto of Fred because it's a classic kind of shot. But it also does other things: it told my viewers that the Mid-Week Summer Market was "on;" it told them there were pulled pork and roasted yam tacos, 3 for $5. A cheap lunch for anyone within cycling distance (ie. downtown Courtenay).

What happens because of the market: it attracts cultural and commercial activity on the margins. This is a good thing. It adds to the spontaneous, authentic experience.

I believe that Helen Austin and her family are an incredible gift to the Comox Valley. But here they're being what so many musicians at the Comox Valley Farmers' Market are: an important texture that makes this event real, fun, and very social.

How I start my weekend: delicious treat, delicious espresso, the warmth of people enjoying themselves in a place where they feel good. The Comox Valley Farmers' Market is one of the things that's "right" about the world. Plus, the prices are good, and you can find things that aren't to be found (at least not in the same quality) elsewhere.
