High-Yield Strawberry Production --If you want lots of good-sized berries, pinch off all flowers/fruit the first flowering season of NEW plants. This puts all the energy into the root system and the plant will get huge. Also, clip the runners every week throughout the growing season so the energy goes into fruit production and not making more baby plants ("daughters"). Keep the soil acid, fertilize at the right time, use a straw mulch, and you will be come a strawberry-growing expert!

Plant Raspberries this Spring -- Grow your raspberries on a trellis system in a raised garden box. I would only do one row per box with the box being half this width making it much easier to pick from both sides.

Pruning Suckers off Tomato Plants - This picture says it all. Prune the new growth that occurs between the main stem and the branch. This will send the energy to fruit production and not foliage. Do this for indeterminate tomatoes, but not determinate tomato plants. Read and find out more here.

Want Big Onions? -- Get your onion plant in the ground as far in advance of June 21st as possible. This gives the plant a long time to develop a large green top, which is the key to developing a large bulb in the summer. Grow your onions from seed under lights and then set them out in the garden no later than April 15th. You can buy sets or bulbs--I have had better luck with sets. This video shows you how to plant them.

What a great way to align your seeds before you plant them in the ground...especially for small ones like carrots and such. Just lay the homemade seed tape in your garden where you want it, and sprinkle with a little soil. The seed will stay put until it sprouts.

Use your fence to grow your vegetables vertically. I bought some 6' tall deer netting from a local nursery and stapled it along the inside of my wooden fence. It has lasted for years and I grow tomatoes, peas, beans, melons, and cucumbers on it.

Recycling Celery -- Cut off the bottom after use, and put in a dish of water to sprout, then plant in the ground as seen in the photos. I have grown celery the past two years from seed (it thrives in very moist soil) and it was greener and taller than anything I have bought at the store. Now I will recycle it from now on...
