The fruit farm dates from 1978; Richard and Mary are the 4th generation and Will is the 5th generation to farm here. The farm is run on traditional principles and varieties are often old fashioned ones selected for flavour. Because all our crops are sold direct to the customer they can be brought straight from the field to the shop. You therefore benefit from the best in flavour and nutrition. We breed and grow our own pork - again using traditional methods and breeds to ensure you benefit from the added taste gained from these methods of production. All our pigs are run free range, outdoor produced, without the use of feed additives or growth promoters. We share our customers' concerns with the environment and try to work with nature in our production techniques. We follow the principles of LEAF "Linking Environment and Farming" and are pleased to see the resultant wildlife on the farm. We strongly believe that the environment, the customer and the grower are all best served by buying local produce direct from the grower. It is fresher, more nutritious and generates less packaging and less pollution in transport. Essington Fruit Farm is a family business run by the Simkin family who have farmed in Essington for over 110 years retailing quality produce from our farm since that date. We have a commitment to providing our produce as fresh as possible and as we grow our own produce it is often the case that fruit and vegetables are less than an hour old before they are sold in our farm shop . March 2007 saw the opening of our Butchery and Deli giving us an outlet for our own free range pork and beef and lamb from neighbouring farmers. We opened our restaurant in 1990 enabling us to offer our own produce cooked in our country kitchen restaurant. The kitchen also bakes daily for the shop providing traditional home baking as fresh as possible.
