I checked the soil temperature in the garden today with the hopes to get the Contender Green Beans in the ground to official start the green bean growing season. Taking several sample temperature from different areas of the garden and averaging them shows that my soil temperature is around 56 degrees. Too cool to plant green beans. Green Bean need to be planted in soil that is around 70 degrees to germinate best. If I planted today and the soil temperature does not rise over the next couple of days the seed would germinate slow and cause me problems. Update as of june 29, 2010 on my survival garden. If you are a prepper and have been planting you own garden, you may enjoy this video. I planted new tomatoes in buckets and pots, the cucumbers are coming up better now and the vines are getting longer, transplanted some squash into a bigger clay pot, the baby squash are coming in, banana pepper plants are putting on now, the bell peppers are getting bigger. I also planted in boots this time to show that you can container garden in just about anything that you can recycle. if you haven't started growing anything to stock up your pantry for this winter, there is still a little time left. Don't delay. The further we get in to this economic crisis, the closer we seem to be getting to a currency collapse and when that happens, it is going to be harder to feed you and your family. There is now an even greater threat because of the BP oil spill and the chemicals they are using not to mention the methane gas that is coming up out the bottom of the ocean. people are saying that it feels like the end times and that bible prophecy has started to fulfill. We aren't sure yet but whatever is happening, it's a wise decision to grow your own food while you have the chance. Don't forget, try to use all heirloom seeds so you can save some for next year.

Calving heifers and cows outside is not normally possible in mid Oct in this part of the world. Rainfall has been below normal for the last few weeks. Good run of heifer calves so far - .!8 heifers and 2 bulls this week. The calves in the video are by Pomeroy (Sexed semen) from CRI Wisconsin USA Pomeroy exhibits good type traits and excellent production. He is giving an extra +407 kgs milk with a huge +24.8kg fat which is +0.12%. He also produces long living cows with a lifespan score of +0.4 Semen can be purchased online .at bullsemen.com Late lactation were still out at grass until today.

1954 Fordson Major at Banbury Steam Fair http://www.banburysteam.com at Bloxham in Oxfordshire UK on Sunday 28thJune 2010 ,the first tractor in the demonstration ring on Sunday afternoon. Not many people at the show saw it because they were watching England in South Africa get knocked out of the 2010 football world cup by Germany on the TV in the beer tent . Its not strictly speaking square wheeled but the shape varies between maybe between a 6 sided hexagon , rectangle , rhombus , parallelogram, trapezoid , so its much simpler to say square wheels . The rear wheels were called Rotopad. Converted by Rotary Hoes Ltd., later called Howard Rotopad tracks. They are a type of track unit to achieve a Low Ground Pressure for working on soft surfaces. They were designed to replace the wheels on a tractor .The machine was used for cutting trenches in which originally were laid clay pipes for land drainage. These machines were developed over the years, certainly until the late 60s at which time they would be laying continuous plastic pipe, which of course is still used in land drainage today. This machine is a drainage trencher used for digging a trench the trencher which then laid the pipes as it moved slowly along putting clay pipes into wet land. After the pipes had been laid a tractor with a trailer having a side blade came along pushing the soil back into the trench. The machine is a Standard Fordson tractor with tracks that walked the machine along subsequently giving it better traction with less pressure on the ground than a wheeled type . They may look cumbersome but they were excellent when the going was wet . Harper Adams University College welcomed Michael Seals MBE, Chairman of the new Animal Health and Welfare Board for England, to the campus this week. In addition to informal meetings with staff and students, Mr Seals, an alumnus of Harper Adams, gave a talk to a packed lecture theatre about how the board will operate. "I see this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to empower animal keepers and farmers, to build trust between them and Government and form a working partnership at all levels," he said. Mr Seals explained that, while the board is made up of independent people, it is a part of government. He added: "This board involves itself in the decision making process. Civil servants will no longer take matters directly to ministers for a decision. They will have to go through the board. Any decisions made will be challenged by the board and that challenge is going to be made public. "The decisions we make and the recommendations we make to ministers will also be made public. If the ministers disagree, that disagreement will be made public. It will be open, transparent and interesting. "The meetings of the board itself will remain relatively private, because some of the information we will be dealing with is sensitive. It's a fascinating position to be in; a system that has never been tried before in this country." Harper Adams Principal Dr David Llewellyn said: "We were pleased to be able to welcome Michael Seal on a visit to Harper Adams, and that his talk was attended by such a large audience of students and staff. The Animal Health and Welfare Board for England will play an important role within Government, and it was good to hear about its work at first hand so early in the development of the Board's work programme."
